Oil and gas producer Oil Search Ltd has reported its first discovery as a project operator outside of Papua New Guinea.
The company has discovered hydrocarbons at the Tubb'a-1 well in Block 3, Yemen, it said in a statement on Thursday.
"The well produced gas and condensate at rates up to nine mmscf/d (million standard cubic feet per day) and 450 bbls (barrels) a day," Oil Search said.
"Further work is underway to define the producing intervals and any fluid contacts.
"The well is Oil Search's first operated discovery outside PNG."
Oil Search has a 60 per cent stake in Block 3, a joint venture with Turkey's Petoil, which has a 34 per cent stake.
Yemen General Corporation for Oil and Gas holds the remaining six per cent interest.
