After months of speculation, yesterday's national accounts confirmed that Australia is unlikely to escape a recession.

While on the plus side, that could mean more big rate cuts from the Reserve Bank, it is also likely to mean financial pain for families, rising unemployment and a big government deficit.

But some economists are already saying that yesterday's figures could be a 'mirage' and that a recession in Australia is far from a 'done deal'.

Are you worried about losing your job?

Are politicians and the media beating up the prospect of recession?

Will you be spending or saving Kevin Rudd's next cash payment in April?

"let none dare call it conspiracy"...but how else could a worldwide 'recession' come about without a concerted manipultion of international funds?. How come everyone was sitting on the edge of a financial precipice and never knew it, then suddenly we are all plunging over the cliff without a parachute. Having spent time in Zimbabwe, I know what true financial calamity is...and how the conspiring 'West', witholding their funding and aid can bring a country to its knees. The UN, IMF and One World Government aspirants have all the resources available to make a global collapse possible...why?... in order to bring down many souvreign goverments, so as to be able to introduce a perceived 'need' for their ideology as the panacia for the world's woes that will rescue the world's equalibrium. Listen for the soon- call for a 'superman-saviour' to rescue us all and lead us to a haven of financial equality and security, for the good of all mankind! The 'Old Book' has already foretold the story...
Hi Well here we go again LABOUR they are always trying to be goody goodies and again we will fail Matybe they should look at how much it is going to cost by bringing in so many Muslams this year also look at how they a secretly buying up land and doing what we can't do subdivide with there own and not going through the right channels I have heard how they have bought land in Bents Basin at silverdale , trying to sell to there own EG 1 acre $10,000 lets see if they will sell to us aussies yeah yeah we know the answer Tell keven O 7 who has enough money to get real and lets hope the libs and GOD help us if rudd stays I am about to have to put 2 people off because the building game is in a shamble because he keeps on talking things down so No one is doing anything He should have kept the money and we dont need his lousy $900 keep it and spend it on more better things like hospitals Thanks John
Typical of the labour govt to be handing money out to all and sundry. Should have instigated capital works projects to create jobs. God knows we are short on all types of infrastructure. Looks like prophetic words from little johnny howard when he said "Australian families have never been better off".
Im worried about the recession but what worries me more is the complete lack of thought by the journolist(s)who dream up the questions on the msn surveys on the home page. They get worse by the day
Yes, after years of expertise cleaning up the mess Labour's left last time and finally getting this country back into great economic shape, what do we do ? - well not me personally, but those duped by the "Kevin 07" hype - hand it back to labour to stuff it all up again......do we never learn?
It is not what I think, it is what I can do! It is not what the goverment is or going to do BUT what are we all prepared to do. Sitting at home and making clever comments about others is never the answer. It is not the Rudd goverment it is OUR Goverment. The question IS what are we all including the MEDIA going to do? Clever headlines and finger pointing, what happened yesterday won't cut it. So,what positive steps are we who live in the GREATEST country prepared to do?? Dont write about it DO IT.
I call on all Australian women to unite and stop buying Pacific Brands underwear. Women buy most of their family underwear, and a united Australian woman body, could bring the sales of Pacific Brands to a complete standstill. So women in Australia, unite amd speak with your wallets.
Another thing why isn't the rent is going down instead of going up when the interest rates have gone down heaps. This is what I would say GREEDY. All the business moving their business overseas... stop buying the products... let them go broke. We have had enough of cheap crap materials coming from overseas where we provide better quality materials. Read the labels to see who made the stuff and don't buy them.
I lost my job on Christmas Eve day recently and cause of my age now and the disability that I have, this is going to be really hard for me to find a job in my hometown. There are a few people that I know who have lost their job still haven't got a job and it is just getting harder. I have applied for Disability Support Pension but have not heard nothing yet, I have applied for it from Jan 29th 2009 and I was told that I could have to wait up to 9 weeks...WHY taking that long???? Lack of staffs???? I don't know how much longer I have to wait as I may have to be force to move out as I am paying $220.00 a week and I am not in the Government Housing. I was knocked back by Centrelink twice when I have asked about DSP and both times they said that I was capable to work. What bugs me is that I know someone who have been on DSP after her parenting payments was cut off and yet why wasn't she is capable for work. She have been doing private cleanings which pays up to $800.00 a week cash in hand.
the payout by Mr Rudd is helpful short term to some, but dangerous long term. his government believes the more you pay out, the more popular he will be. if he keeps giving hand outs, it keeps encouraging people to put their hands out, rather than be more self sufficient.
