The Rudd Government's inaugural budget is finally in the bag, but how was it for you?

Working families were the winners with the wealthy paying the price.

Swan delivered a bigger than expected budget surplus, tax cuts a housing affordability fund, major health and education spending and $40 billion in health, infrastructure and education investment. Read the full budget wrap

I am wondering when the work will begin. Nothing has been done yet - money is being put in a bank account for intrastructure but it seems it will only be thought about for the next few years - nothing done. Global warming - now people cant afford solar energy systems because they have means tested the allowance to begin. Which means that people now have to afford $18,000 instead of $10,000 for the smallest system. Orders are being cancelled all over the place. So people will be out of work, small businesses will go broke and that is just the tip of the iceberg. It all sounds very grand with money being put here and there for education and hospitals etc. - but nothing is being done is it? I would not drop out of private health insurance no matter what they charged because I have seen people who did not have it wait for years to have the urgent attention they need in public hospitals. You can be rich or poor - no middle ground with the ALP.
Sorry was there a Budget? I'm semi-retired, self supporting and the kids are employed. Apart from a small tax cut, nothing much affects me. However, I bet there are quite a few middle income Australians who wish they had a second chance to cast their vote! A government is supposed to represent all Australians for the better of all not play favourites. We should have known better than to trust Kevin and a labour government! Seems this government wants only the poor to breed.
I'm a mature aged student who has just completed a Business Degree and is about to commence an MBA. This budget does nothing for University students, and it's $5 million handout will only see around $90,000 spent on our Whyalla campus. It's inflation estimates are already problematical, and I do not accept a 4.25% figure as being realistic. My guess is that it could go as high as 5.75%. And any figure over 3% will see more interest rate hikes, adding to the pain. Also a lot of the measures touted in it are already in place.
What a budjet I think it was fair as long as it gets followed through. My main issues are Hospitals , Fuel , Everyday Groceries , Crime As for Nelson ( What a WALLY ) acting like a spoilt child that can`t get his own way trying to block important issues like avoiding our kids from becoming Alchoholics He was most likely the one sitting on the seat that Buswell sniffed LOL I think he opposed we increase taxes on the wealthy because his Rich mates are now mad at him and wont let him play with them anymore People forget they only get Rich by sucking from the Poor Thanks Martin.
What is "Just me", York WA, talking about? The present government inherited a lot more than a slightly higher inflation of 4.1%. It had been 5.2% under the last labor government. They also inherited 'No government debt", (labors 96 Billion debt paid off),mortgage rates at 7.2% when they were previously 12.75%, wages growth of 19.8% compared to the previous governments minus 1.8%, Unemployment rate of 4.4% previously 8.2%,taxes were reduced and thresholds raised considerably, employment increased to 10.5million from 8.3million and funding for a whole raft of things, as well as that pensioners had their incomes indexed and the means test thresholds raised. This just for starters, obviously "just me" is either too young to remember what it was like under labor previously or has a very short or convenient memory
The time is here and now for all ordinary Australians be they Pensioners,Middleclass young or old to realise that in order to combat Government and Corporate arrogance, lies ,indifference and legal robbery.....We must invest in our selves . In order to take control from the liars and cheats and dictatorial types who think they are born to rule the masses, we must use our mass to reverse this cancerous situation. I am a single mum, full time university, renting. I left a very well paid job to further my education in my chosen field, ultimately increasing my income. You say be grateful! Oh come on, get a life!!!! No, the vast majority of older people do NOT own their own houses,,,,, Also, you say that you have the luxury to invest with your partner , (super etc) The parenting payment is 870 per fortnight from which I am paying 225 a week rent,70 a week for full time daycare (which I need for studies, ),do your basic maths, thats a whopping 590 a fortnight plus petrol, plus uni books, plus electricity, plus internet fees, plus car insurance and all the other little things that people like to have in their daily lives, an example,, FOOD money, I am lucky to put food in my little girls mouth, plus at the end of uni, i wil also have a massive hecs debt, all for the priviledge to further my education.!!! and you actually have money left over to put into super!? wow u must be rich!!
One day you too will be old, however you will be able to survive. Even my taxes of past years will help you ammass your own fortune.
that will contribute to your pension. Heed your own advice- wake up tp yourself, take a trip out of your own little world and stop complaining too!
*Be grateful* must be either really STUPID or just plain ignorant. How can you compare your life and situation to a pensioner? Pensioners are generally not greedy and should be better supported in their golden years. My parents are both on the old-age pension and struggling to survive. YOU at least have some money to pay for entertainment, upkeep(whatever that means for you) and all your insurances. My parents have no life savings, do not go 'out' as they cannot afford it and have no health insurance either. As they care for my 2 babies 3 days a week they also fork out money for petrol and tolls( because i cannot afford to pay for these for them!) They rarely buy meat and sometimes dinner is just tuna or 'bully beef' on bread. Lets see YOU survive on the peanuts that they recieve. If anyone is being greedy here it is YOU. You complain about how your partner is working long hoursto pay tax that contribute to the pension- yet you forget that one day others will be paying that same tax
