A Tasmanian dream home in 48 hours: Yvonne's story

, Next

My husband and I returned home late 2007, after 10 years living abroad, and wondered whether we’d missed the boat with home ownership. Prices were too high, our deposit too small.

Fast forward to mid 2009, and the boost to the first home buyer’s grant, and we started to wonder what if?

Our dream was Tasmania, and with my husband working between Vic and Tas were lucky enough to be able to base ourselves in either state. We jumped online and a saw a small unit for sale in our dream location. The price was right.

That Sunday my husband headed to Tasmania for work and happened to mention to my parents our intentions. Up the road from their house another property had just come onto the market. On a whim my husband arranged to see the property that afternoon.

It was love at first sight: An old cottage with character on 2.6 acres of land.

On Monday morning I called the bank to sound them out about pre-approval. On Monday afternoon I jumped on a plane to Tassie. On Monday evening my husband put in an offer, subject to three conditions - one being my approval of the property during an inspection the following day - and signed the contract. One hour later our offer was accepted. On Tuesday morning I inspected the property - loved it- and signed the contract.

We are still pinching ourselves.

It took us 48 hours to buy our dream home. Well, 12 years and 48 hours.

We were about the same. We found our dream home on the monday, spoke to our bank that night got pre-approval , looked at it Tuesday, put an offer in Wednesday night later that night it was accpeted. Thursday we signed the papers, Thursday night we became in engaged! Monday i started a new job. That week was full of stress and happyness.
